To share your screen on Webex, select Share during the meeting, set Resolution and frame rate (text and images or video and motion), tick Include computer sound if needed, then choose a screen or application. Use the control bar at the top to Pause, annotate, or Stop sharing.
How do you share your screen in a Webex meeting on Windows?
These steps follow Cisco's help article Webex App: Share content in a meeting, for the Webex App on Windows and Mac.
- Select Share in the meeting controls.
- Open the Resolution and frame rate drop-down under Sharing options and choose Automatically adjust, Best for text and images or Best for video and motion.
- Tick Include computer sound if others need to hear audio from your PC.
- Decide on Show me in front, which overlays your camera on the shared content.
- Choose the screen or application to share. A preview appears at the top of your screen; use the down arrow to bring it back if it slides away.
Anyone in a Webex meeting can share content, but only one person can share at a time. Hosts and cohosts can turn sharing off for everyone else, which is worth doing in a large meeting where an accidental click shouldn't replace your slides.
Should you share your screen or an application in Webex?
| Webex option | What viewers see | Best for | Catch |
|---|---|---|---|
| Screen | The whole monitor | Demos across several apps | Everything you open is visible |
| Application | One app's windows | Slides, a browser, one document | Dialogs from other apps don't appear |
| Several applications (Shift+click) | Only one of the selected apps at a time | Switching between two apps you've picked in advance | Viewers see whichever is active |
| Share all windows from an application | The app's main window plus its floating windows | Apps with tool palettes or pop-out panels | Needed to share the Webex meeting window itself |
The multi-select row confuses people. Webex lets you select several apps, but viewers only ever see one of them, whichever you're working in. It's a quick-switch feature rather than a composite view like Zoom's multi-window share.
Which Webex frame rate option should you choose?
Best for text and images keeps small text sharp and is the right pick for slides, spreadsheets and code. Best for video and motion raises the frame rate so animations and video play smoothly, and it switches on Include computer sound automatically. Automatically adjust lets Webex decide as content changes. If your slides look soft for viewers, the drop-down is probably on video and motion.
How do you share computer audio on Webex?
Tick Include computer sound before you pick what to share. In the web app the equivalent boxes are Also share tab audio and Also share system audio in the browser picker; on iPhone and iPad it's Share device audio, which turns on automatically if you choose Optimize for video. Whatever your PC plays goes out, chimes and all.
How do you share a second monitor in Webex?
With two displays in Extend mode (Win + P > Extend), Webex lists each screen separately. Pick the one you want to show. The sharing control bar can be dragged onto the other monitor, so it doesn't sit on top of your content, and if the floating thumbnail videos cover something you're presenting, drag them to another edge.
How do you annotate a shared screen in Webex?
On the desktop app, open More sharing controls in the control bar at the top of the screen and select Annotate. The annotation tools draw on a layer over your screen, so clear them before moving to the next slide or they'll sit on top of it. Cisco's separate annotation article covers letting attendees draw too.
How do you stop sharing on Webex?
Select Stop on the control bar at the top of the screen. Pause freezes the share on the current frame without ending it; Resume picks up again. On the web, the button is Stop sharing; on mobile, tap Stop Sharing (iPhone) or Stop sharing (Android).
How do you share your screen on Webex on a Mac, in a browser or on mobile?
Mac
Same steps as Windows. The first share triggers macOS's screen recording permission prompt; allow Webex under System Settings > Privacy & Security > Screen & System Audio Recording and restart the app.
Web app
Select Share, choose Optimize for motion and video or Optimize for text and images, then pick a tab, window or screen in the browser picker and select Share.
iPhone, iPad and Android
On iPhone and iPad, tap More options > Share Content, pick an optimization, choose Your entire screen, then select Webex and tap Start Broadcast. On Android, tap More options > Share content or camera, choose Your entire screen, then Share > Start now.
Why isn't Webex screen sharing working?
| Problem | Likely cause | Fix |
|---|---|---|
| Share is greyed out | The host or cohost turned off sharing for participants, or someone else is sharing | Ask the host to allow sharing |
| Black screen for viewers | Graphics driver issue, protected video, or an app that blocks capture | Update drivers, share a different window, or share the screen instead of the app |
| Slides look blurry | Frame rate set to Best for video and motion | Switch to Best for text and images |
| Video is choppy | Frame rate set for text | Switch to Best for video and motion |
| Viewers can't see a palette or pop-out | Floating windows aren't part of a normal application share | Use Share all windows from an application |
| Can't see participants | Thumbnails hidden or covering content | Drag the video thumbnails and control bar to another monitor or edge |
| Mac shares only the wallpaper | Screen recording permission missing | Allow Webex in Privacy & Security and restart |
What can others see when you share your screen on Webex?
Webex is a little more careful than most meeting apps by default. Cisco says the Webex App suppresses incoming message and call notifications while you share. You can also untick Show my Webex app before sharing so Webex windows stay off the share, and choose More sharing controls > Hide Webex controls and panels during a share.
That suppression only covers Webex's own notifications. A Teams message, an Outlook reminder or a WhatsApp Desktop toast is a Windows notification, and on a full-screen share it's visible to everyone. So the rules are the same as anywhere else:
- Screen share: everything on that monitor, including toasts from other apps and the taskbar.
- Application share: only that app. Toasts and other apps aren't captured.
To keep notes or an AI chat visible to you while sharing, put them in a window you don't share, on a second monitor, or in a window that Windows excludes from capture with WDA_EXCLUDEFROMCAPTURE (Windows 10 version 2004 and later). Turn on Do not disturb before presenting; our guide to hiding notifications while screen sharing has the exact settings, and how to hide a window from screen share compares the window-level options.
AuraCloak is an AI chat overlay for Windows that's excluded from screen capture, so it stays on your side of the call.
Get AuraCloakAuraCloak is an invisible AI overlay for Windows that sets that capture-exclusion flag on its own window. Any capture that goes through Windows capture APIs skips it. Webex isn't one of the apps we list as verified, so run a test meeting with your phone as a second participant before you rely on it. And like every capture-level trick, it won't hide from a camera pointed at your screen.
