A teleprompter app for Windows that your screen share can't see
AuraCloak puts your script in a see-through window right under your webcam. Windows keeps that window out of Zoom, Teams and Google Meet shares and out of OBS and Loom recordings, so you can share your whole screen and keep reading.
Which teleprompter app for Windows works when you share your screen?
If you share your entire screen, you need a teleprompter window that Windows leaves out of the capture. AuraCloak sets the WDA_EXCLUDEFROMCAPTURE flag on its window, so Zoom, Teams, Meet and OBS show what's behind it. It doesn't auto-scroll. For hands-free scrolling without a full-screen share, a free browser teleprompter is enough.
Most Windows teleprompter apps are built for recording yourself. QPrompt is free and open source, and Virtual Teleprompter has a free Lite version for scripts up to 1,000 characters. Both scroll smoothly and both let you make the window see-through. Neither vendor says the window stays out of a screen share, though, so the moment you pick "Entire screen" in Zoom, your script goes out with everything else.
AuraCloak is a private AI chat overlay, and it makes a good teleprompter for exactly that moment. Your script sits in a dark, always-on-top window. You set how see-through it is. Windows skips it when anything captures the screen. The trade-off is scrolling: you move through the script with the mouse wheel, the way you'd scroll a long chat reply. If that's a deal-breaker, our roundup of teleprompter apps for Windows lists the auto-scroll options, prices checked October 2026.
How do you use AuraCloak as a teleprompter?
About five minutes the first time. After that it's one hotkey.
Install and activate
Run the 50 MB installer on Windows 10 version 2004 or later, or Windows 11, and paste the license key from your purchase email.
Put the script in the chat
Paste your script and ask the AI to lay it out in short lines without changing the words. Or ask it to write the script from your bullet points.
Set the opacity
Open Settings, then General, then Overlay opacity. Anything from 20 to 100% works. Around 60 to 70% keeps the text readable while you still see faces behind it.
Park it under the webcam
Drag the window to the top center of the screen and make it narrow. Ctrl+Alt+Space hides and shows it.
Click-through mode (Alt+C) passes clicks to the app underneath, scroll wheel included, so turn it off while you scroll the script.
When does a hidden teleprompter beat a normal one?
Demos that jump between apps
Browser, terminal, slides, back to the browser. Sharing the entire screen saves you re-picking windows mid-demo, and the script stays off the share.
Screen recordings in OBS or Loom
Read a clean intro while you record a walkthrough. Both apps capture through Windows, so the recording shows your screen without the script.
Webinar openings and closings
Housekeeping, the speaker intro and the final call to action are the parts worth reading word for word. Ad-lib the middle.
One laptop, no second monitor
Hotel desks and kitchen tables don't come with a spare display. The overlay sits on the same screen you share.
Numbers you must get right
Pricing tiers, dates and legal wording on a customer call. Keep them in the overlay, and see AuraCloak for sales calls for the rest of that setup.
Slides with speaker notes
Presenter View needs two screens to keep notes private. If you present from slides, our presentations page covers notes over a full-screen share.
Prompts that turn a draft into teleprompter lines
The AI part is optional, but it saves the tedious formatting. Replies below are examples; yours depend on the model you pick.
You: Reformat this for a teleprompter. One breath per line, no more than 8 words a line, blank line between paragraphs. Don't change any words.
Reply: Your script comes back in short lines, ready to read at a glance from the top of the window.
You: Cut this to 90 seconds at 140 words per minute. Keep the opening line and the last sentence.
Reply: A version of about 210 words, with the cut sentences listed underneath so you can put one back.
You: Write a 60-second webinar opening from these bullets. Spoken style, contractions, about 140 words.
Reply: "Hi everyone, thanks for joining. I'm Dana, and for the next 40 minutes we're going to..."
You: Put the one word I should stress in each line in capitals.
Reply: "We cut onboarding from TWO weeks to three days." Small cue, and your delivery stops sounding flat.
How does AuraCloak compare with other Windows teleprompters?
Pick based on one question: will you share your entire screen while you read? Vendor details checked October 2026.
| Free online teleprompter | Desktop teleprompter apps (QPrompt, Virtual Teleprompter) | AuraCloak | |
|---|---|---|---|
| Auto-scroll | Yes | Yes | No, you scroll |
| See-through window | No, it's a browser window | Yes, both have an opacity or transparency setting | Yes, 20 to 100% |
| Stays out of an entire-screen share | No | Not stated by either vendor | Yes, on Windows 10 version 2004 and later |
| Stays out of OBS and Loom recordings | No | Not stated by either vendor | Yes |
| AI to write or trim the script | No | No | Yes, with OpenAI, Claude, Gemini, Copilot or browser mode |
| Price | Free | QPrompt free; Virtual Teleprompter Lite free up to 1,000 characters, Pro a one-off fee | $9 a month or $49 once |
Only sharing one window? A browser teleprompter does the job for free. Read how to use a teleprompter on Zoom for both setups.
Can people on the call see your script?
Not through the share. AuraCloak calls SetWindowDisplayAffinity with WDA_EXCLUDEFROMCAPTURE (Microsoft Learn). Zoom, Teams, Meet in Chrome or Edge, Slack, Discord, OBS and Loom all capture through Windows, so they get the screen without the window.
- Needs Windows 10 version 2004 or later; older builds show a black box instead
- A phone or camera pointed at your monitor still sees it
- Remote desktop sessions and hardware capture cards work outside Windows capture, so plan for those
Where to put the window
Your eyes give you away when they drop more than a few centimeters below the lens. Put the first line of the script right under the webcam, keep the window about a third of the screen wide, and scroll so the line you're reading stays at the top. Our guide to using a laptop as a teleprompter has the camera-height details, and reading notes on a video call covers lighter setups with bullet points.
Read your script while you share your whole screen
$9 a month or $49 once. Every feature in both plans. Windows 10 and 11.
Windows teleprompter questions
Does AuraCloak scroll my script automatically?
No. AuraCloak shows your script in its chat window and you scroll it yourself with the mouse wheel or scrollbar. If you want steady hands-free scrolling and you aren't sharing your whole screen, use the free AuraCloak online teleprompter in a browser window instead.
Will people on Zoom or Teams see my script?
Not through the screen share or a recording. AuraCloak sets the Windows WDA_EXCLUDEFROMCAPTURE flag, so Zoom, Microsoft Teams, Google Meet in a browser, OBS and Loom capture whatever is behind the window. It needs Windows 10 version 2004 or later. A phone or camera pointed at your monitor will still see it.
Does AuraCloak work on Mac?
No. AuraCloak is a Windows app for Windows 10 version 2004 or later and Windows 11, on x64 PCs. There is no Mac, Linux or mobile version.
Can I use it for recorded videos in OBS or Loom?
Yes. OBS and Loom record the screen through Windows capture APIs, which skip the AuraCloak window, so you can read your script while recording a screen walkthrough. You can switch the exclusion off in Settings if you ever want the overlay in a recording.
How much does the AuraCloak teleprompter cost?
AuraCloak costs $9 a month or $49 once for lifetime access, with every feature in both plans. The teleprompter use needs no AI at all. If you use the AI to write or trim scripts, your provider bills you directly, or it costs nothing extra in browser mode with a ChatGPT or Claude subscription.
